Rob And she uses the word signifies, which means giving the meaning of something. The sari obviously has an emotional attachment for her.

No, they wear these clothes not to be ready at a moment s notice to head out to the real country, they wear these clothes as a form of conspicuous consumption. They are saying: see, I don t need to dress in old haut bourgeois weekend casual clothes, because I go out to Aspen (or Park City, or some other far off trendy place) and this is what I would be wearing if I were there. (Never mind that I only go once a season, or once every two years, I want you to think that it was just some huge deal at work that has kept me in NYC, so I am wearing my ski jacket to dinner on the Upper West Side, or I have on my fleece vest, even though I have just been to an indoor gym).

I bought this hoodie mainly for working out and running which is why I like the fact that s its a little loose, giving me that freedom in mobility. Even though I use it to workout, I also wear it just as an everyday hoodie and it also looks great. Love the colors! ... read more

Also, when driving, white people love putting their turn signal on about a half mile before the turn.

Exactly. As an American living in the UK for the sixth straight year, I was thinking exactly this, Tessa!

Gabby came out purple and limp. Doctors stabilised her in the neonatal intensive care unit and then began a battery of tests. Within days the Williamses knew their new baby had lost the genetic lottery. Her brain s frontal lobe was smooth, lacking the folds and grooves that allow neurons to pack in tightly. Her optic nerve, which runs between the eyes and the brain, was atrophied, which would probably leave her blind. She had two heart defects. Her tiny fists couldn t be pried open. She had a cleft palate and an abnormal swallowing reflex, which meant she had to be fed through a tube in her nose. They started trying to prepare us that she probably wouldn t come home with us, John says. Their family priest came by to baptise her.

Rob Yes. But the meaning of clothes goes far deeper than what you should or shouldn't wear in the workplace, Will. It can really influence what people think of us. Now, rightly or wrongly, they can make snap judgements - or quick decisions - about us.

Death means change our clothes. Clothes become old, then time to come change. So this body become old, and then time come, take young body.

MEXICO - The Mexico Public Safety Department said Thursday it's looking for three suspects after finding some of their clothing at the scene of a burglary.

Hey! Someone in my Facebook group shared this site with us so I came to check it out. I m definitely loving the information.

I didn t even know Northface EXISTED until I went to a certain baby ivy school . It still amazes me as to why its so popular. White people LOVE being unique, but they all end up being the same

In the great city where he lived, life was always gay. Everyday many strangers came to town, and among them one day came twoswindlers. They let it be known they were weavers, and they saidthey could weave the most magnificent fabrics imaginable. Notonly were their colors and patterns uncommonly fine, but clothesmade of this cloth had a wonderful way of becoming invisible toanyone who was unfit for his office, or who was unusuallystupid.

Ageing, he thought, comes about because this developmental programme, this constant change, never turns off. From birth until puberty, change is crucial: we need it to grow and mature. After we ve matured, however, our adult bodies don t need change, but rather maintenance. If you ve built the perfect house, you would want to stop adding bricks at a certain point, Walker says. When you ve built a perfect body, you d want to stop screwing around with it. But that s not how evolution works. Because natural selection cannot influence traits that show up after we have passed on our genes, we never evolved a stop switch for development, Walker says. So we keep adding bricks to the house. At first this doesn t cause much damage a sagging roof here, a broken window there. But eventually the foundation can t sustain the additions, and the house topples. This, Walker says, is ageing.

In August 2009, MaryMargret Williams saw a photo of Brooke on the cover of People magazine, just below the headline Heartbreaking mystery: The 16-year-old baby . She thought Brooke sounded a lot like Gabby, so contacted Walker.

I love outdoorsy people who think that nobody else could possibly be outdoorsy and thus should not be wearing outdoor gear. The worst culprits of this are people who work inside at gear shops and have superiority complexes

School leaders say some of the children are going to class with their shoes duct-taped together or wearing clothes which no longer fit them.

That side twisty ponytail definitely needs a tutorial to go with it are you listening, Namrata Soni ?

Thank you for all the useful info on sewing. I want to make my own clothes and I feel that I am capable, now that I have received great info from your blog. Thanks for sharing

Advice from an old, crusty editor who doesn’t smoke cigars (anymore)

Aimed at people newish newish to the business and the people who have to manage them, from someone who’s been an online news manager for 16 years and now runs Reuters.com.

Key insights include: You’re smarter than everyone else in the newsroom. But that’s your deepest secret. Don’t tell anyone.

Find the grizzled old hand who can teach you more with one withering glance than all your professors in J-School.

Never mention any of your professors in J-School.

Be bored and then do something about it.

Let’s talk about something deeply personal for a minute. Are you ok? I mean seriously, are you really ok? Depression, anxiety - they’re incredibly common in the newsroom. Here’s some of what you need to consider in dealing with it in yourself and others.

Is it a raccoon-cat or a cat-raccoon? And what to do about it

John Oliver outlined the problem without proposing any solutions.  Here are six ideas.

Why we need solutions journalism

If we think of the media as a feedback mechanism for society then — like any feedback mechanism — it can encourage or inhibit all sorts of things. Depending on what gets highlighted and what gets overlooked — and how stories are framed — the media can accelerate social progress or do just the opposite. The question is: What kind of feedback is likely to enhance or diminish society’s capacity to solve problems?

One of the core assumptions in journalism is that the press helps society to self-correct largely by acting as a watchdog. Much of the time, reporters spotlight problems – i.e., provide negative feedback – with the goal of spurring reforms. We’re increasingly realizing that is incomplete. We need to promote health, not just attack disease. To do that for society, it’s not enough to know what’s broken; people need to know how problems could be, or are being, fixed.

Media: Blended

Students today are producing newscasts, not for television, but the web. These newscasts take snatches of inspiration from the evening news of old, shows from today such as Vice, video podcasts, and comedy news shows and blend them into something new, original and far more targeted to their audiences. On the University of Nevada, Reno campus, students are producing Wolf Pack What, a You Tube program with no anchor desks, where news packages are just as likely to introduce absurdist elements as they are to be straightforward. This is reflective of the mindset of the next generation of journalism professionals, who draw from the best media of today and remix it into what will become the media of tomorrow. As traditional news fades, the latest generation of journalists is ripping up the rule book in this new digital age, making news not just informative, but funny and personal.

Leave no “@Mention” behind

Relationships are great, but one-sided relationships suck - even on social media. In fact, especially on social media. Many of us journalists never respond to or acknowledge his/her readers on social media when they reach out. Big mistake. Everyone talks about engagement, but how many of us actually engage? Give me five minutes to convince you why no “@mention” should go unnoticed.

Our workflow is generally horrible

Henry Ford did not build a better car. In fact, the Model T came with tools for when it broke. He built a better way to make a car.

We need to do that with our industry.

We need to engineer tools that make publishing every type of content simple. We need to devise workflows that are straightforward, linear and logical. (gasp!) We also need processes that put our digital platforms, not our legacy products, first.

This is not complicated. In fact, what’s needed is simplification. Some suggestions. And some commiserations for what all we have endured.

Journalism is a strategy, not an industry

Amid all our enthusiasm about defending and improving information gathering and independent reporting in the modern web and data-backed era, we have misunderstood the implications of the great unbundling of great news media organizations.

Journalism is a strategy to make communities better that needs to be spread, not a cohesive industry that needs protecting. The better we understand this, the easier it is to communicate why organizations with journalism DNA have more reason to share and support each other than compete.

I’m Christopher Wink (Hi!), the cofounder of 25-person community news publisher Technically Media, host of the annual Barcamp News Innovation and the longtime organizer of ONA Local’s Philadelphia chapter. I’d love five minutes to share with you why I think this is such an important concept for our work.

From the Frontlines of Libya to the Trenches of Tech

In 30 years of broadcast reporting for ABC, CBS and CBC TV News the biggest pain in my daily life has been transcription. Like every other reporter I’ve simply accepted that we have to do it ourselves - or if we are lucky someone will do it for us. What I never imagined was that I would join a brilliant team of developers to revolutionize the routine of journalists around the world. I am totally unqualified to be a CEO and inventor, but having lived the pain and the problem of transcription I have a pretty good idea of what an automated solution needs to look like. It’s been a two-year odyssey and together we’ve done it. Our software is being used by NPR, the Washington Post, the BBC and others. We use artificial intelligence to create incredibly accurate transcripts in minutes that you can search, verify and share. I’d never have believed that Career 2.0 would find me in this role, I loved reporting. But creating Trint (transcription+interview) has been a huge challenge and real thrill. And it’s just beginning. We opened to the world in early September. There is a life after reporting!
